QUICK POLL: Veterans Cemetery
Dear Friend,
I believe we should honor the Veterans that have so bravely defended our freedom.
We all agree that they should have a First Class Veterans cemetery in Irvine.
The Irvine city council is committed to creating a 125-acre veterans cemetery somewhere near the Great Park and Great Park Neighborhoods.
But the city council is divided on the location and who pays for it.
And true to form former Mayor Larry Agran wants taxpayers to pay $80 million (Agran’s already blown $250 million on frivolous unrealistic Great Park plans).
He’s joined by current Mayor Pro Tem Lynn Schott and Councilman Jeff Lalloway committing $40 million in Irvine tax dollars to the cemetery. They’re relying on upon the State for the balance.
FivePoint Communities – developer of the Great Park and Great Park Neighborhoods has offered 125-acres of free land and development money.
Mayor Don Wagner, Councilwomen Melissa Fox, and Christina Shea want to understand the offer – and have indicated that FivePoint’s offer of a FREE deserves consideration.
FivePoint has recently detailed the plans for the FREE Veterans Cemetery. You can read it here.
I am hopeful that the city council can come to agreement and Irvine’s Veterans Cemetery becomes a reality.
Sincerely,
Dick Ackerman
