Orange County developers may not be building enough new homes to meet demand, but four master planned communities in South County are selling swiftly enough to grab top spots in one national ranking.
The Irvine Ranch neighborhoods were the top-selling master planned community in the nation in the first half of 2016, according real estate consultants at RCLCO. Beacon Park at Irvine’s Great Park ranked 12th; Rancho Mission Viejo was 15th; and Baker Ranch in Lake Forest was No. 17.
Orange County builders have enjoyed a sales revival of late as house hunters have been enticed by a strong local job market combined with the region’s desirable climate and amenities.
The Irvine Co.’s homebuilding activities on the Irvine Ranch grabbed the top sales spot from The Villages in Ocala, Fla., which had been the national sales leader the past 14 years.
RCLCO’s count showed Irvine Ranch projects selling 989 homes in the first half vs. 1,036 in 2015’s first six months, when it was ranked No. 2. In 2016, The Villages were ranked No. 2 with 841 sales.
For all of 2015, Irvine Ranch builders sold 1,674 homes. But this year Irvine Ranch is facing some stiff local competition from the three Orange County projects that cracked the top 20, according to RCLCO…
